Informing us of your recovery
If you are receiving a sickness benefit (‘Ziektewet-uitkering’) and you have recovered from your illness, you must inform us of this. You must do this even if you are following a return-to-work plan (re-integratietraject). If you do not let us know that you have recovered, this could affect your benefit.
How to inform us of your recovery
Inform us of your recovery by using the ‘Betermelder’ (Recovered) button on Mijn UWV. You will need either a DigiD account or a valid European electronic ID (‘Europees erkend inlogmiddel’) to do this.
If a date has been set for when you will be fit for work
You and an UWV staff member (such as an absence manager or UWV physician) might have come to an agreement about when you will be fit for work. If this is the case, you will not have to inform us of your recovery. The UWV staff member will do this for you on the date you both agreed upon.
Please note: If your recovery turns out to be slower or faster than you had planned, you must inform us of this. To do this, please call UWV Telefoon Werknemers (the UWV employee helpline). Keep your citizen service number close to hand so we can help you quickly and efficiently.
What happens next?
Once we have been informed of your recovery, the ‘Betermelden’ button will no longer be visible when you log onto Mijn UWV. Your sickness benefit will end and your return-to-work plan will no longer apply. You will have to find a job.
Applying for an unemployment benefit once your sickness benefit ends
If you have not found work by the time your sickness benefit ends, you might be entitled to an unemployment benefit if 1 of the following situations applies to you:
- You were receiving an unemployment benefit before you started receiving a sickness benefit, and the maximum duration of your previous unemployment benefit had not yet been reached.
- You have not managed to find a job since your sickness benefit ended and you meet the conditions to qualify for an unemployment benefit.
