• Your employee’s contract will end 6 to 10 weeks after their first day of illness.
  • Your employee was expected to return to work within 3 months of their first day of illness.

To complete the brief return-to-work report, please go to the employer portal (‘werkgeversportaal’) and keep the following information close to hand:

  • your employee’s first day of illness, their citizen service number (BSN) and any additional personal information
  • your occupational health and safety service’s contact information (‘arbodienst’)
  • your employee’s return-to-work information

You may want to re-hire your employee once they are able to return to work. If this is the case, let us know via the brief return-to-work report.

If an employee’s contract ends while they are ill, you no longer have to pay to pay their salary. We do ask you to arrange a sickness benefit (‘Ziektewet-uitkering’) on their behalf. You can do this via Digipoort. If you prefer, you can also use the ‘Absence’ feature (‘Verzuimmelder’) on the employer portal. You will need your EH3 level eHerkenning account to do this.

Do not forget to give your employee the return-to-work report when their employment ends. We will need this report when supporting your employee in their recovery process.

Please note: If you do not apply for a sickness benefit or if your application is late, you risk incurring a fine of up to €455.
