Arranging adoption or foster care pay for your employee

If your employee is about to adopt or foster a child, they will be entitled to adoption or foster care pay (‘adoptie- of pleegzorguitkering’). You will have to apply for this benefit on your employee’s behalf.

How to arrange adoption or foster care pay

To arrange adoption or foster care pay for your employee, use the Report an absence feature (‘Verzuimmelder’) on the employer portal and select ‘WAZO-verlof’. You can also submit your request via Digipoort.

What you will need when applying for adoption or foster care pay

Your employee will need to provide proof that the adoption or foster care placement has occurred.

If adopting, your employee will need to submit the following documents to you:

    • a statement from a licensed adoption agency proving the adoption will go ahead
    • a record of the child’s registration in the municipal personal records database (BRP) or a copy of the child’s temporary residence permit in the Netherlands (issued by the Dutch embassy in the child’s country of origin)

If fostering, your employee will need to submit these documents:

    • a copy of the foster agreement
    • a record of the child’s registration in the municipal personal records database (BRP)

Make sure the date of the adoption or foster care placement is included on 1 of the documents. You will also need to complete the Submission form for additional documents for adoption or foster care pay (‘Nasturen documenten na aanvraag WAZO-uitkering’). Send this form along with the proof of adoption or foster care placement to the address included on the form.

    Decision

All communication about the adoption or foster care pay will be sent to your employee. They will receive a decision about their adoption or foster care pay within the first 4 weeks of their leave. You will be sent a copy of this decision.
