To report an employee is ill, use the ‘Absence’ feature (‘Verzuimmelder’) on the employer portal. You will need your EH3 level eHerkenning account to do this. Select ‘ERD Ziekmelding’ (‘Report an illness as a self-insured employer’) and fill in all the information required. Keep your employee’s citizen service number close to hand when doing this.

You must report your employee is ill within 6 weeks of their first day of illness. Or, if their contract is ending, within 6 weeks of their last day of employment.

  • Your employee was ill when their employment contracted ended.
  • You have a former employee who fell ill within 4 weeks of their contract ending. In such a case, your former employee must tell you they are ill by their second day of illness.
  • Your employee is not an actual employee but is classed as such for tax purposes ('fictief dienstverband'). Examples of these types of employees include freelancers, home-based workers and interns.
  • You have a former employee who is an agency worker and whose contract ended as soon as they reported they were ill.

If your employee returns to work within 6 weeks of falling ill, you can report both their illness and recovery to us at the same time. Use the ‘Absence’ feature on the employer portal to do this.

You might have already informed us of your employee’s illness before they recovered. If this is the case, inform us of their recovery as soon as possible. Make sure you do this within 2 days of your employee returning to work. You run the risk of receiving a fine otherwise.

Please note: If an employee does not inform you of their recovery on time, you must report this to us. You can do this by completing the Form for reporting a violation of the rules (in Dutch).
