    Seeking an expert opinion

You might want to seek an expert opinion (‘deskundigenoordeel’) if you feel your return-to-work process is not going the way it should. Or if you have questions about returning to work. Keep in mind that an expert opinion is not binding in any way. This means you cannot object against an expert opinion.

Please note: At the moment we are receiving more applications than usual. Therefore it may take some time for us to reach yours. Once we have received your application, we will call you to discuss whether we can find a solution together. If we cannot solve your issue in this manner, then we will proceed to process your application.

In which situations can you seek an expert opinion?

    • if you and your employer disagree on whether you will be able to return to work without support
    • if you are unsure if the work you are expected to do will help your return-to-work process
    • if you want to check you are putting in enough effort to return to work
    • if you want to check your employer is putting in enough effort to help you return to work

How do you seek an expert opinion?

To seek an expert opinion, complete the Request an expert opinion form for employees ('Aanvraag deskundigenoordeel door werknemer').

Keep in mind that you will need to use a separate form for each of the situations described above. So, if you want to seek an expert opinion on more than 1 situation, you will need to complete this form more than once.

What will you need when completing the form?

    • your citizen service number (BSN)
    • your employer’s address and contact information
    • the date on which you were first unable to work due to illness
    • the number of working hours specified in your contract
    • the date on which your employer stopped paying your salary (if applicable)
    • the address and contact information of the occupational health and safety service (‘arbodienst’) or occupational health physician (‘bedrijfsarts’)
    • the documents required for your specific situation (in Dutch)

    Medical records

Do not provide any medical information when completing the form. If you need to provide medical records you must send them to us separately. Make sure you specify which question number the medical records are referring to. Please also add your citizen service number to each document.

Write the words ‘medisch geheim’ (‘confidential medical information’) on the front of the envelope so our employees know this information is meant for the UWV physician.

You can send these documents to the following address:

    UWV
    Deskundigenoordeel
    P.O. box 56733
    1040 AS Amsterdam

    Costs

The cost to seek an expert opinion is € 100 per request. Once you have received the expert’s opinion we will inform you on how to make the payment.

    Decision

You will usually receive the expert opinion within 4 weeks. However, please keep in mind that at the moment we are receiving more applications than usual, so it may take longer.
