Please note: We will not be actively involved in the return-to-work process during the first 2 years of illness. We only want to be informed of your employee’s situation.

You can report a long-term illness via Digipoort. If you prefer, you can also use the 'Absence' feature (‘Verzuimmelder’) on the employer portal (‘werkgeversportaal’). You will need your EH3 level eHerkenning account to do this.

Please note: Make sure you report a long-term illness by the first workday that follows the 42nd week of illness. If you do not do this, you risk receiving a fine of up to €455.

Your employee might return to work for a while during their illness. If this happens, keep the following in mind when calculating the first day of illness:

  • If your employee becomes ill within the first 4 weeks of returning to work, the first day of illness will remain the same.
  • If your employee becomes ill after having worked 4 weeks in a row, the 42 weeks of illness will start all over again. This means your employee’s first day of illness will change.

We will send you a letter around the 44th week of your employee’s illness. In this letter, we will inform you of your responsibilities in helping your employee return to work.

If your employee is ill for 88 weeks, we will send them information on how to apply for the WIA benefit. This is a benefit that offers financial support to people with an occupational disability.
